Pianist and composer Mathias Landaeus forms a post bop team with Tim Hagans/tp, Karl-Martin Almqvist/ts, Johnny Aman/b and Cornelia Nilsson/dr for some originals that feel like late Blue Note material from the 1960s a la Andrew Hill.
Landaues goes dark with Hagans on the left of center “Mind” Saved By Imagination” and creates dark blue shades with Nilsson’s mallets on the ballad “Spirit” Waving Flags in the Mist”. Amqvist sways with the leader on the loosely constructed “Reminder” and forms melancholic reeds with some Asian harmonics supplied by the leader on “Body: A Tree Merging with Itself”. Cerebral swing.
