John Surman: Words Unspoken

Best known for his work on the baritone sax, jazz vet John Surman brings in both soprano sax and bass clarinet on this mellow album with Rob Luft/g, Rob Warng/vib and Thomas Stronen/dr. His baritone is balmy with Waring on the gentle call of “Words Unspoken” with his soprano supplying a folk feel on “Onch Celidh” and the mysterious “Precipice” alongside Stronen’s mallets. A dreamy bass clarinet relaxes on “Around the Edges” and playful for “Bitter Aloe”, floating like a cirrus cloud on “Around The Edges”. Sunset sounds.
