Composer and bassist Micah Collier forms a core trio with Justin Dillard/p and Vincent/dr and juxtaposes a five piece horn and three pieces string section for one song and a trio of Michael Shekwoaga Ode/dr, Julian Reid/p and Jeremiah Hunt/b for the dominant collection of tunes. Drummer Ode is akin to El vin Jones as he produces an avalanche of sound on the modal “Love” featuring the passionate voice of “Dee Alexander”, while the majestic “Compassion” has Ari Brown flying around the rubato. Reid hammers out “Perspective” and the four part “Duality Suite” includes frantic sax work from “Fred Jackson” and an earthquake of rhythm with Jackson screaming out “The Almighty”. 6.4 on the jazz Richter scale.
