Some fresh fingers are in the hands of pianist Lawrence Fields, featured mostly in a trio setting with Corey Fonville/dr and Yasushi Nakamura/b on a collection of mostly originals. He has a nice and clean style, warm and bluesy like Wynton Kelly as ON “Parachute” and shows his dark side on an intricate “To The Surface”. The ivories chime on a modal “Vision” and hip hop for “ Sketches” with a dash of Bach on the classy “Movin On. A solo read of “L.B.F” is a rich and lyrical voyage as well, with the one cover, a take of “I Fall In Love Too Easily” allowing space for Nakamuara to stretch out a bit. Impressive impressions.
