Digging into the songbook of the Kenney, Johnson and Nixon years Tom Collier p lays a wide variety of vibes and similar things that go bump in the night ,at times teamed with guitarist Eddie McCord and bassist Ed Kraft. The result is a pastoral gem that emphasizes dreamy moods of reflection. The song selection is cleverly eclectic, with a pair of tunes by Jimmy Webb, “Galveston” and “Wichita Lineman” deftly dark with marimba and vibes with a dash of synth. There’s an easy blue feel to “How Can I Be Sure” and Collier blows out the candles on drums with a festive read of The Beatles’ “Birthday” while chiming with mystery on “ Across the Universe”McCord picks out a nice line on “Tired of Waiting For You” and the British Invasion is rounded out on a bouncy “( I Can’t Get N o) Satisfaction”. Dylan’s “Like A rolling Stone” feels like it’s blowing in the wind with chimes, and “Ring of Fire” is as dark as one of Johnny Cash’s suits. Good vibrations.
