Susanne Alt has a warm and rich alto sax on this soulful album with James Hurt/key-p, Gerald Cannon/b and Willie Jones III/dr. She brings in her flute to create some rich woodwind textures on the soulful pulse of “Roy Allan” , with Hurt’s Rhodes adding a rich foundation on her lyrical alto on “Blue Notes & Fairy Tales”. There’s a pleasant funky feel supplied by Jones on “Classy Cats” and the lady shows her chops as Hurt’s piano bounces on “Bel Air Bop”. Her rendition of “The Nearness Of You” is filled with wonder and elan, as she doesn’t overplay the lyrics, but lets each note tell a story. Clear and clarion ideas.
