Pianist Skip Wilkins has his compositions interpreted by his Czech team of Josef Feco/b and Tomas Hobzek/dr along with guest Rostislav Fras/ts for a few tracks. In quartet mode, the team is dainty with Fras fluffy on the two takes “Kaja”, with Fras sighing on the somber “Really?” . The threesome has a late period Bill Evans feel when Feco bows and picks on “In Morava” with the leader in an elegant mood for “My Czech Family”. There’s a nice funky feel induced by Hobzek on “Where Are You Going, Frank” and the hitting is hard on the driving “Nearly Good Wine”. In the tradition and then some.
