Pianist and keyboardist Diane Roblin brings together George Koller/b, Tim Shia/dr, Kevin Turcotte/tp-fh, Jeff Larochelle/ts-bcl and John Johnson/ss-as for a soulful collection of originals. The feel is that of those vintage CTI releases from the 1970s, with a rich mix of jazz and subtle sol on pieces like “Now” and the funky Ladyfinger” coaxed along by Koller. Roblin herself has a touch and feel akin to Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, pretty with Turcotte on the title track and classy around Larochelle’s tenor for “Drifting Into Dreamland”. Her solo outing on “Cadenza” makes me wish for more. Is she touring soon?
