Pianist John Chin trios up with Sean Conly/b and J aimeo Brown/dr for a mix of post bop material. He gives space to Conly for a reading of Wayne Shorter’s “Fall” and a rich solo aria on “Intermezo”, while “Speak No Evil” has Brown in the forefront. Chin himself is bluesy on “Bermuda Triangle Eyes” and soulful on a tender read of “ Pure Imagination”. Brown hits hard on John Coltrane’s “Countdown” and the team is hip to the jive for Bobby Hutcherson’s “Montara”. A strong chord of three strands.
Pianist Ray Gallon brings in bass legend Ron Carter and equally legendary drummer Lewis Nash for a rich mix of originals and standards. Gallon has a nice bluesy feel as he slinks around Carter’s bass on “Two Track Mind” and strides like an old timer with Carter on “If I Had You”. The team shifts like sand on a soulful “Old Folks” and has fun stop starting on the tricky “Acting Up”. Nash leads the bop till he drops on “Pins and Needles” and digs in on a romping read of “Nardis”. A swinging right triangle.
Sven Dam Neinild plays alto sax, clarinet and flute along with the piano and prepared piano of Jacob Aderskov and drummer Kasper Tom for five intuitive originals. Meinild practiced his long tones to get his clarinet ready for the dark “Zostera Marina” while his alto is abstract on the spacey “Thistle Root”. The team plods along on the tangential “Response-Ability” with some shrill alto and floating flute on “Vortex Street”. Anderskov is impressionistic on “Marbling” with the whole setup sounding like a bunch of ideas in mid thought.
Bassist Mads Vinding teams up with pianist Dado Moroni and drummer Niclas Campagnol for a 2018gig at Jazzhus Montmartre. Vindings bass is in a flexible mood with a wide vibrato on a Bill Evansy “All Of You”. He gets funky with Campagnol on a chiming “Quiet Yesterday” and dainty alongside Moroni on “Alice In Wonderland”. Campagnols sticks sizzle on “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise” and the team hovers on a rubato’d read of “Nature Boy” . Wuthering heights.
