Trumpeter Art Farmer (1928-99) possessed one of the prettiest tones on the horn, and was a major factor in the jazz scene particularly in the 50s and 60s. This 2 disc, 42 song collection puts together some of his tastiest treats, starting with complete sets of his 10” albums, such as Art Farmer Quartet with Addison Farmer/b, Herb Lovelle/dr and Wynton Kelly/p bopping well on “I’ve Never Been In Love Before” and “Gone With The Wind”. The same year has him leading a septet that includes Art Taylor/dr, Charlie Rouse/ts, Horace Silver/p, Jimmy Cleveland/dr, Monk Montgomery/p, Percy Heath/b and Quincy Jones/tpon Mau Mau” and “Up In Q uincy’s Room” Farmer meets alto saxist Gigi Gryce with Horace Silver-Freddie Redd/p, Percy Heath-Addison Farmer/b and Kenny Clarke-Art Taylor/dr for vintage hard bop on “A Night At Tony’s” , and an album in Casablanca with the same front line brings in pianist Duke Jordan of the latter’s composition “Forecast” and a hip read of “Nica’s Tempo”.
