Guitarist John Stein uses his thick tone to team up with bassist Ed Lucie and drummer Mike Connors for some clear and sleek reads of standards. He is reminiscent of Jim Hall in the sense that he doesn’t overstate his idea, digging in on the bopper of his own “Zip Line” while gentle over the brushes for “Falling Grace”. Lucie gives a n ice intro to the soulful “What If Love N ever Dies” and Connors supplies a hip Latin mood for “Groundswell” before vocalist Cindy Scott lends here breezy scatting to “Dig Blues and bopping to “Every Stepping Stone”. Unassuming swing.
