Playing guitar, keyboards, bass and drum programming, Scott Emmerman teams up with drummer/percussionist Marty Zevin for a collection of soulful conversations. Pianist Larry Nelson guests on the rollicking “Roanoke” while the rest of the time Emmerman handles the keys, as on the bluesy and hip “California Roll”. The programming gives an 80s pop-techno feel to “K C Blues” , while his bass digs a rich rivulet with Zevn on the fusion “Judgement Day”and rocking “Return to Rogers Park”. On acoustic guitar, Emmerman harkens back to Southern Asian sounds with Zevin on the tablas on “Spheres” which is reminiscent of late period Yardbirds material, whereas some stomping R&B takes place on “Winning Time”. A dynamic duo.
