Guitarist Roger Lin creates a tapestry of tones on his compositions interpreted with the mix and match team of two different rhythm sections in Moshe Elmakias/p, Willis Edmundson-Quinton Cain/dr and Isaac Levien-Simon Willson/b and saxist Chaz Maretineau. There’s even a intuitive and personal solo work by Lin on the intimate “Etude 1 Ambitious and Ugly”. Most of the album consists of the multi-faceted “Exploratios suite with shimmering guitar and gentle sax on a flowing and mellow “ Shore On The Other Side” and a dark foreboding teaming of the two front liners on a drifting “Resilience Against”. Lin’s guitar is tensile and lyrical during “They’d Like To Support” and impressionistic alongside Maretineu’s fluffy tenor on “ Strengths and Insecurities”, with the whole album coming off like a mosaic of sounds used as marble stones to create a compete form, best appreciated from a standing distance.
