Guitarist Joe Wittman trios up with Daniel Duke/b and Keith Ballas/dr on a collection of originals and covers, displaying his allegiances. First tip of the pick goes to Grant Green, as Wittman carries the same mix of clean lines and rich chords on pieces like the bopping “The Judge” and “Isiah Restored” and particularly on the richly hued take of the Green-associated “Born To Be Blue”. Ballas creates a fun cadence for some nifty chords on “Big Sip Riser” and his brushes assuage the graceful “Sweet Lorraine”. Wittman takes a turn to the darker hues on a boogaloo-ing “Boogie For Bloomfield” and some noir alley chords for “Felon Wind”. Wittman is feeling the spirit on this one.
