One of modern jazz’s true explorers, Hiromi creates a fresh sounding alvumplaying both piano and keyboars with Hardien Feraud/b, Gene Coye/dr and Adam O’Farrill/tp on this recent release. She switiches between acoustic and electronic with alacrity, the former showing her rich stride hinting at Erroll Garner on the sing songy “Wanted” while bopping with O’Farrill on “Up”. There’s even a chiming toy piano jabbing with Coye on “Bonus Stage” and the tender voice of Oli Rockberger brings a gentle soul t the R&Bish “Reminsiscence”. Feraud gives a rich inro tho the Weather Reportish funk of “Go Go” and the groove is dug deep with some keyboard noodling on “the title tune”, whle O’Farrill plays Ninentdo with Hiromi on the New Orleanish “Trial and Error”. Creative pleasures.
