Fresh from the Greek side of Chicago, trumpeter Constantine Alexander debuts with a hard bopping album that sounds like he was weaned from Blue Note albums as well as feta cheese. Playing flugelhorn as well Alexander brings together a muscular team of Roy McGrath/ts, Julius Tucker/p, Greg Essig/dr and Ben Dillinger/b for a set of originals. The front line is confident, with McCrath evoking Joe Henderson and Alexander sweet and strong like Blue Mitchell on the confident “The Show” and swinging easy on the bluesy “ IDKY”. The team stretches out with fire in their bones on the modal “Deez” and digs in on “Frequent Flyer”. Alexander’s easy side shows as he is supported by Essig’s brushes on the pretty “Forever and Always” with his flugelhorn glistening on “Fire”. As tasty as stuffed dolmades.
