Hey, you gotta take n otice of a jazz album if the music is a concept album about the Knights of the Round Table. I mean, come on!!
The music is cleverly composed by Benjamin Shorstein, peformed by Jarrett Carter, Jonah Pierre/p, Thomas Milovac/g, Nukab Akgiid/perc, Benjamin Shorstein as a rhythm team and a horn section of JuanRollan/sax, Lance Reed/tb, Steve Strawley/tp, Molly Swet/cl and Michael Emmert/fl. You also get vocals by m’lady Rebecca, as on the stomping march of “Galahad”. But the draw here is simply the success of styles and sounds to piece together the story. Rollan gets into a Coltrane mood on “Camelot” and the wild ride of “King Arther”, while Pierre and Carter are reflective during “Merlin”. The woodwinds are graceful for “The Lady and the Lake” and the horns are romantically muted during “Guinevere”. Milovac takes you on a journey through “The The Holy Grail” and the swinging is easy on “Lancelot”. As sharp as Arondight!
