Julio Resendo Fado Jazz: Sons of Revolution

A rich mix of Portuguese folk blues, aka “fado” and various forms of jazz meld together on this fragrant release by Julio Resendo. There’s lively guitar work on “Portugal Celebrates with Red Floweres” while Sub Saharan drums rumble around “Mr. Fado Goes to Africa for the First Time”. Tensile space between guitar and Nat Simon’s piano sway gently on “Fado Poinciana For Ahamad Jamal”  with classical nasal toned soto voice of Salvador Sobral gliding along “A Casa Dela/Her House”. The mix of earthy Lisbon nightclub tones and vintage jazz makes for an exquisite sauce of sounds.
