Acoustic guitarist Heikki Ruokangas mixes left of center harmonies with plaintive pickings on this contemplative solo album. There’s a traditional folk feel on pieces such as “Hyvaa Huomenta Maailma” and patient strums on “Hailuoto”. Some of the tones get a little askance as on “Aalto I” and “Akaslompolo”, while his picking style sometimes shows a sharp bite, as during the spacious “On Suuri Sun Rantas Autius”. Tensile and edgy, but entirely accessible. John Fahey with an attitude.
