Audrey Silver: Okalahoma

Clever, more “jazzy” arrangements of tunes from the iconic musical Oklahoma are adroitly delivered by Audrey Silver, singing in a nightclub fashion and occasionally playing the Native American flute, teamed with Bruce Barth/p, Peter Bernstein/g, Adam Kolker/f-bcl Kahlil Kwame Bell/pec and a string quartet for three tracks of Sara Zun/vi, Ada Kridler/vi, Kaya Bryla/va and Maria Jeffers/cell. She pulls a few surprises, mellowing out with her flute and voice a gentle read of “Oklahoma” , a and acting quite reflective with Kolker’s bass clarinet on “I Can’t Say No”. Bernstein delivers some tasty treats with an easy swing of “Many A Day” and a fun “Kansas City” along with Barth’s striding piano. The strings add warm texture to an ebullient “Oh What A Beautifule Morning” and Bell brings an extra canter to “The Surrey With The Fringe On Top”. She’s doin’ fine.
