NICE STRINGS…Roni Ben-Hur: Love Letters, Todd  Mosby: Land Of Enchantment

Not clutter on these frets…

Clean toned guitarist Roni Ben-Hur is in his element with the warm waters of Ingrid Jensen/tp, Ugonna Okegwo/b and J ason Tiemann/dr on a mix of originals and standards. His fingers are nimble over the easy boppers like “To Dizzy With Love” and swings easy on “Lonely Town”. Jensen’s trumpet blends in on the breezy “ Alegria de Viver” and is gorgeously muted on the misty “Seul, a Paris”. Okegwo delivers a rich pulse for the title tune, and Tiemann guides with his brushes on a delightful “ Fair Weather”. Subtle wonders.

Guitarist Todd Mosby creates modern smooth sounds with a  mix and match team that includes Vinnie Colaiuta/dr, Dapo Torimoro/p and Rhonda Smith/b. . At times, there’s an almost Steely Dan feel to the tunes, as on the folksy and clever “Georgia’s World” Laua Vall’s voice on “ Georgia’s World” while the team is funky around Smith’s bass line on “Place In The Sun”. Mosby has a George Benson feel to his tone and licks, breezing on”Moonrise Samba” and beautiful for “A Distant Light”. He plays a bluesy read of “Norwegian Wood” with an acoustic Imrat guitar, and gives a James Taylorish feel to the classwic “By The Time I Get To Phoenix”. Sweet strings.
