Drummer Brandon Sanders exposes a soulful boppers heart on this gorgeous album with the irresistibly foggy tenor sax of Chris Lewis, along with Keith Brown/p, Warren Wolf/vib and Eric Wheeler/b. Just to make things even better, supreme singer Jazzmeia Horn jumps on stage for a fun read of Steview Wonder’s “I Can’t Help It” and a dreamy “In A Sentimental Mood” supported by the deft Brown. Sanders andcompany dig in deep on “ Voyage” and sway the blues for Lewis on”Compton’s Finest”, having a hoot on the read of “Monk’s Dream” with Leweis blowing smoke rings. Then, there’s a take of “Body and Soul” that hovers like a full moon, while “SJB closes things out like Eddie Ha rris doing open field running on the soul-groove field. When’s the next gig?
