Guitarist and vocalist Rick Derringer, famed for the classic garage hit “Hang On Sloopy”, as well as his own bluesrocker “Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo” teams up with wife Jenda for an upbeat album that shows why he’s one of the most sought-after session guys.
His voice blends well with wife Jenda, and his strings are lovely on the romantic duet “First Time” with some tasty licks teaming with B3er Ron Reinhardt during “Hot & Cool”. There’s an enjoyable 70s-ish rocker, slow and steady, in “If I Weren’t So Romantic” that features Mrs. D, and the two have fun on “Florida Siesta”. Derringer’s ax is waxed on the sleek ‘Good To Go”, and with Carmine Appice on drums, he plugs in and rocks like his days with Edgar Winter on the anthematic “United States”. Derringer plays all guitars, bass and even some keys and drums, and like all good wives, Jenda is a helpmeet to Derringer’s loaded gun. I forgot how much I liked this guy back in the day.
