Shalosh: Tales of Utopia

Made up of the Israeli team of Dan Benhorin/b, Matan Assayag/dr and Gadi Stern/p, the band Shalosh (meaning “three” in Hebrew) create a chamber-like feel, not unlike Billy Childs, on this album of group conceived originals. There are a pair of “King’s Dreams” themes; one a spacious, Yanni kind of thing and the second a deep dip of hip hop between piano and drums. Assayag hits the hi hat on the Latin dance of “The Market” with Stern shining and glistening. The team is kinetic,  quirky and Caribbean on “Wedding Song” with an assertively dark mood on “The Advisor”. Stern waltzes on the gentler “Three Sisters” and cascades around Benhorin’s lead on “Views of Road in Crimson Red”. Wholistic conceptions.
