Pianist Herb Silverstein teams up with bassist Michael Ross for a concert of duets at The Opera House. His touch has a hint of influence, but not a devotion, to Bill Evans as Silverstein is warm and melodic on a fragrant “Happy Daze” and lyrical for the pastel’d “Our Little Secret”. The two give a “So What” reference to the modal “Si Senorita” and swing easy for “Helix 49” Ross brings in an alluring pulse for “SB Blues” and saunters on “She Only Has Eyes For Herb”. The two bring out the best in each other, with the song being the star. As with the best of umpires, you don’t notice them, but what is happening on the field of play.
