The latest release by CarbonWorks’ Vanishing Act, is a mind-provoking animation musical that emphasizes the conflict between man’s dominion of nature versus domination of it. The accompanying music more than stands up on its own, with the dramatic strings supplied by Allegra Havens/fi and Jeffrey Phelps/cel conversing with and chasing each other supplemented by dashes of percussion. This movement eventually changes directions with Neal Barnard’s piano and guitar jumping in with Shea Roebuck/b Mike Stetina/dr, bringing in mood akin to vintage moments of Yes in its heyday. But here, the message, both visually and aurally (spoken by Brian Stivale) , brings fascination and inspiration to the ears and eyes, as both sight and sound are illustrative.
