Drummer Bobby Falk creates a soul jazz feel on this album with Aaron Irwinsky/ts-ss, Chris Borin/tp-fh, Craig Wagner/g, Jeff Furgo/p-key, Jeff Plant/eb and guests Derek Siebert/ts and Wade Honey/p. Most of the time, the album has a Joe Sample feel when Furgo’s on the keys, with a nice canter on “Bump Bump” and easy gait for “The Streets of Santa Teresa”. Falk does some nice brush work on the samb’d “Coming to Fruition” and hip “Time of Gratitude”. Falk gets into a hard bop mood on a Horace Silver-inspired “Interstate 35” with some nice tenor work by Siebert” while Wagner’s guitar glides through “A New Day”. Irwinsky’s soprano simmers through “Going Home” and the horns lock into “Effortless Spree”. A jogger’s pulse.
