Playing a wide variety of keyboards, programming and piano, composer Vahagn Stepanyan puts together a rhythmic and soulful collection of originals, ranging between smooth and R&B. The rotating cast includes Snarky Puppy member Mark Lettieri, as well as Eric Moore/r, Leslie Johnson/b, Greg Howe/g, Dave Koz/ss, Feodor Dosumov/g and various guests. Koz’s soprano sax shines on the upbeat “ Synergy” with Lettieri energetic on the Weather Reportish “Without Limits”. Ida Nielson’s thumb slaps the electric bass on the chunky Motion” while guitarists Max Ostro and Greg How wacka wooki-ing through the hip horns of “Gravity. Most intriguing is the stripped down “Toy” that has an Earth Wind and Fire feel, while “Hold My Hand” has Stepanyan doing all of the work for a dreamy and impressionistic closing.
