Pianist Jeb Patton delivers a series of “Preludes” with his team of John Ellis/ts-ss-fl-bcl, Mike Rodriguez/tp-fh, David Wong/b and Quincy Davis/dr. All except for Ellington’s “Prelude To A Kiss” (which features Wong’s bass work) are by the leader, with some being trios, as the a-forementiond Ducal tune and “Prelude In F# Major”. The horns s wing easy on “ Prelude to C Major” and Rodriguez is dreamy on “Prelude IN B Minor”. Ellis’ soprano creates an exotic line over Wong on “Prelude in A Minor” while his flute is reflective in ”Prelude In F Major” and his bass clarinet broods on “Prelude in D Major”.
