Bassist Duncan Hopkins brings in the two guitars of Reg Schwager & Ted Quinlan along with drummer Michel Lambert to give tribute to the creative pen of Ken Wheeler. Except for the static rubato of Hopkins’ own “Montebello”, all of the tunes are from the famed pianist’s pen, with a soft and stately title track led by the bassist, and delicate work with the guitarists on “We Salute The Night”. There is a graceful cadence guided by Lambert on the chiming “Foxy Trot” and the cymbals guide through the tensile strings of “ Kitts” while the sticks give an intro to the snappy “Mark Time”. A ruminating balm hovers over the entire album, with quite reflections dominant.
