Baritone saxist (and vocalist) Claire Daly blends her reed with George Garzone’s tenor, supported by Jon Davis/p, Dave Hofstra/b and David F. Gibson/dr through a rich ix of standards. The tones are big and bold throughout, as on a bel canto “All The Way” and extraordinarily lush “Mood Indigo”. The horns fill the room for “Fools Rush In” and bounce delightfully on “Sweet Georgia Bright”. Hofstra digs in on “Manhattan” and Davis is elegant on the ivories for “Harlem Nocturne” and hold up well against these heavyweights. Reed rapture.
