Playing piano and supplying strings, vocalist Ramana Vieira teams up with David Parker/b-, Jeff Furtado/g, Earl Jackson/dr and some cameo guests for an effort to modernize the sound of traditional Portuguese fado.
There is more of a “pop” feel to some of the pieces, with some rich piano on the title track, and her heart on her sleeve for “Fado La La La”. The rich guitar strings give a folksy feel to “E Pecado” and “Trago Fado Nos Sentidos” while there’s a gipsy Kings feel to “Lambada”. As expected, the best is when Vieira is at her most simple, with only piano for an intimate and alluring “Verdes Anos”, taking you to the back alleys of Lisbon. Polished, but still as delicious as paseis de nata.
