NEW FROM OMNIVORE….Terry Adams & Steve Ferguson: Louisville Sluggers, Victoria  Hallman: From Birmingham to Bakersfield

Omnivore Records has a clever way of finding forgotten and lost recordings from a few decades back and bringing them a return to the light. Here are a couple sample fun ones…

NRBQ founders Terry Adams/voc-p-key and Steve Ferguson/voc-g-dulc have their duo album reissued, sounding like a long lost band album. There’s funky rock to “Peanut Vendor” and Adams taps into his inner Jerry Lee Lewis on “Outer Space Boogie” and “Mule Skinner Blues”. There’s also some cabaret moments as on “It’s Too Soon To Know” and a hip take of “Blue Monk” while the team hoes down on “Turkey In The Straw” and Hi  Heel Sneakers”. Home cookin’.

Known for her role on the TV Show Hee Haw, Victoria Hallman teams up with Buck Owens Buckaroos back in 1982 for a mix of VFW sounds like “His Way Home”, a catchy “Rainy Day Games” and lots of twang on “How’s Everything”. Her voice is sweet and tasty, rocking on “Please  Please Me” and poppish on “Lay Your Heart On Mine”. Most interesting here are a handful of bonus tracks with legendary James Burton/g and Hal Blaine/dr helping out on a fun “Mama Tried” and “Close Enough For Me”. On the way to Oildale.
