Trombonist Altin Sencalar mixes earthy Latin ideas with muscular post bop on this album with Art Hirahara/p, Boris Kozlov/b, Rudy Royston/dr, Diego Rivera/ts and Patrick Cornelius/as. The horns mix together well in bold fashion as on the boogalooing “Do It” or the hectically urgent “Homnenaje A Armando” that has Rivera sear over Royston’s sizzle. Kozlov’s electric bass gives a rich intro to the soulfull “Navy’s Mood” that features warm keys from Hirahara, while his upright teams with the acoustic ivories for a lurking “Mixed Feelings”. Sencalar has a gorgeous tone, bold on “M inor Mishap” and fluffy around some flute on “Lullaby For Paw’, gentle on “Re-imagined” and glowing for “Fall”. Picante and caliente!
