Kevin Harris & The Solultion: Jazz Gumbo

Kevin  Harris, known for his work as actor, producer and vocal coach, shows here he can practice what he preaches with a street level album filled with Crescent City feel ad funk. He brings together a snapping team of Donald Harrison/as, Will Lee-Tony Garnier/b, Mike Clark/dr, Jerry Z/org-p and Dany Draher/b for a party atmosphere of a disc.

Things kick off with Clark in charge of the funky backbeat on a chunky read of Allen Toussaint’s “Yes We Can Can” with Harris’ earthy voice sounding well traveled. Clark and Lee snap through “I Get Lifted” and Draher taps into his inner Steve Cropper for some chunky chords on a bluesy stomper of Wilson Pickett’s “Ninety-Nine and One-Half” while searing through a funkadelic of “Hair”. Jerry Z hits the right keys for Harrison and Harris to preach it on “Freedom Jazz Dance” with Clark headhunting the backbeat for Harris to get right down to the real nitty gritty of “God Made Me Funky”. Music for the dancing masses.
