Singing and playing keyboards, South African musician Bokani Dyer delivers a soulful and multi-faceted collection of originals that hit the heart, ears and head. He’s teamed with a core of Tenai Shoko-Ameshi Ikechi/b, Tinotenda Dambaneunga-Sphelelo Mazibuka/dr, Sthembiso Bhenu/tp, Shane Cooper/g and other guest that add instruments and voices. Gorgeous harmonies prevail on “Be Where You Are”, while many of the tunes fit into the satisfying feel of “Soul Jazz” as on “Move On”, “Mogaetsho” and “Tiya Mowa”. There’s some post bop feel to “Victims of Circumstance” and the saxes get swampy on “Amogelang” while some of the songs preach messages or rap out poems as on ”State of the Nation” or “Resonance of Truth”. The music has a message and delivers one as well.
