Through the years, vocal raconteur Tony Adamo has sung out hip praises to the likes of bopsters from Mark Murphy to Joe Henderson. This time around, Adamo teams up with tenor saxist Rod Sudduth and takes you on a journey to the intergalactic musical world of Sun Ra. The vibe is still finger snapping soulful, with the sax floating around the spacey cymbals and effects as Adamo acts like a tour guide through jazz’s outer space. Adamo dots the eighth beats like stars in the sky, snapping out observances that Ra was “a human from another dimension” as if he’s directing you through various rooms of a musical museum, showing how Ra was able to “spin you like a top that never stops”. This is only one song from the upcoming album Soul Glide, so put on your safety belt and blast away, making some space for Adamo’s place.
