One of the great bass players around, Scott Petito brings together an all star group that sounds like the second coming of Weather Report. Mixing and matching the likes of Steve Gadd-Peter Erskine-Simon Phillips-Omar Hakin/dr, Rachel Z Hakim-Kevin Hays/key, Bob Mintzer/EWI-sax, Larry Grenadier/b, Mino Cinelu/perc, Mike Mainieri/vie and Anna Maria Jopek/voc, Petito sizzles on the fusion pieces like “Dabwala” and l etting M intzer sear through the driving “Mr. Peanut” Trumper Randy Brecker bops through the richly textured “The Alchemist” and Hkim gows on the Latinized “A Great And Sudden Change”. Even more fascinating are the stripped down pieces, with Petito teaming with Cinelu’s flute and percussion for a fragrant “In The Company of Clouds” and going solo with bass loops, bass guitar and a rich imagination for a jaw dropping “ Many Worlds”. You know a guy is a good bass player by the company of drummers that he keeps. This “A” list tells volumes.
