Gruff toned vocalist and guitarist Larry Fitzgerald rocks the blues with Dave Alves /b and Karl Schantz/dr on an in your face mix of boogie and blues. There’s a definite touch of Hendrix in them fingers, with the strings giving you an experience on “All Over Again”, “I Slowed Down” and the heavy head banger “Tattoo Lady”. Fitzgerald slings his ax on the strutting “Walk Away From Me” and the shuffling “Take It Away” with Alves laying down a nifty line on the funky title track. Definitely check for all your hub caps when you leave this place.

Guitarists and vocalists Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia turn to Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith for production and extra guitar work on this hard hitting session. The regular band includes Lewis Stephens/p-org, Epharim Lowell-Matthew Johnson/dr, and Douglas Bykrit/b, and there’s a whole slew of guests on horns, voices and rhythm. You get plenty of Chuck Berry riffs on the rollicking “Hey Sweet Mama” and Bag Me, Tag Me, Take Me Away”, while some Hendrix licks are delivered on the boogie’d “No Good Woman”. The Hammond hums on the dark “Tooth and Nail” nd the horns get soulful for the swampy “Fool Never Learns”. Joe B sits in for a tasty treat on the folksy “A Thousand Heartaches”, and hints of the Allman Brothers pop up on ”One Step Ahead of The Blues” and “In My Soul”. Music for stomping boots.

Though he recently left us back in December, 2022, Kim Simmonds had one last Savoy Brown album left in him, and it’s good one. He’s in trio form with Garnet Grimm/dr and Pat Desalvo, and plays some organ and harmonica in addition to singing and hitting the guitar. His guitar slides darkly on “Hurting Spell” , and sounds like he’s sitting on your back porch for the casual “Falling Through The Cracks”. He digs deep into the blues on ”Gypsy Healer” and shows less is more on a tasty “Falling Through”. Grimm hits hard on “Winning Hand” and two steps through the tulips on “Texas Love”. Blue eyed British Soul.

Scott Ellison sings and plays a wide variety of rocking guitars with Jon Parris-Ron Morgan-Matt Kohl/b, Robbie Armstrong-Matt Teagarden/dr, Danny Timms/key and David Bernston/harm on a mix of blues sounding like they blew off of Lake Michigan. Ellison’s ax wails on” “That’s How I Love My Woman’ and gets chunky on on the title piece” He plays gunslinger on the slithery ”I Wouldn’t Treat A Dog” and boogaloos on “Ache In My Heart”. Bernstein’s harmonica howls on “She Needs A Whole Lot Of Lovin” and the team swings in blue on “You Can’t Hurt Me No Mo’”. A blue p late special of the blues.
