Mark Ortwein: It Was Time

Playing a wide variety of woodwinds, Mark Ortwein creates rich textures and various moods with a rotating team that includes Olas Ortwein/b, Frank Glover-Paul Langford-Pavel Polanco-Safadit/p, Frances Wyatt-Mat McGraw-Garrington Clinton-Craig Hetrick/dr and  various other guests. His electrified bassoon creates some wild fusion effects on “Bigfoot” and “Lennie’s Lament”  his tenor hiply bops on “I Might Be Happy” His alto is upbeat on “Basso Bossa” and a bass clarinet ruminates for “It Was Time”. He creates layers of reeds on many of the tracks, making the small group much bigger than it appears, with most of the songs coming off as nifty sonic portraits. Palpable tones.
