When you think of doo wop groups, essentially two categories come up, Italian and black. Defying the odds and leaving their parents to work in their family restaurants, Hellenistic vocalists Jimmy Gregorakis, George Mentalis teamed up with brothers George and Jack Mahramas to form the popular group The Four Coins. This two disc, 59 song collection includes both their singles as well as material from their popular albums. They hit the charts with popular pieces such as “Shangri-La’, “I Love You Madly”, “Memories Of You”, “My One Sin” and “The World Outside” even bringing in some pieces that tapped into their Greek heritages with an album of music from their background such as “In Saloniki” and “Never On Sunday” as well as throwing in some Italian kitsch like “Buon Natale Means (Merry Christmas). A fresh sound for the era dominated by rich vocal groups.
