This two disc collection is a sampler of the multi-disc vinyl set released by Craft Recordings of the early and historical Savoy recordings back in the early days of Bebop. Some of the most important sessions of modern jazz were captured by this label, with giants like Charlie Parker (“Romance Without Finance”), Milt Jackson (“Hearing Bells”) and Don Byas (“Byas A Drink”) all getting represented. Some forgotten pioneers like Leo Parker/bs and Fats Navarro/tp get a chance to get rediscovered, while tenor sax man Alan Eager shows Lester Young hints on “Unmeditated” and likewise disciple Stan Getz hums on “Don’t Worry About Me”. This two disc collection is simply a teaserf-just get all the reissues and learn something about life!
