One of the most underrated guitarists around, Dave Stryker, has released another strong album, and as to his usual mode, made this one a bit different in conception than his usual format. This time around, he’s created a B3 trio a la Grant Green with Larry Young back in the days. Temed with Jared Gold/org and McClenty Hunter/dr, Stryker burns on the modal and modern “Prime” and intricate grooves with tricky treats by Hunter on “As We Were” and “Hope”. He gives a tribute to his early groove days with Jack McDuff on “Captain Jack” and his clean lines shine on the soul standard, “I Should Care”.
