SWINGING CHICKS…Molly Ryan: Sweepin’ The Blues Away

Molly Ryan comes across like a recent incarnation of Swing Era canaries like Helen Forrest  or Martha Tilton on this two stepping collection of standards with Dan Levinson/ts-cl, Rossano Sportiello/p, Rob Adkins/b and Kevin Dorn/dr. With Levin’s clarinet, she’s cozy as all get out on ”Get  Yourself a New Broom (And Sweep The Blues Away)”and swing easy on “I Wonder Who’s Kissing Him Now”. Levinson’s breathy tenor sits down by the fireside of “I’ll Sit Right On The  Moon (And Keep My Eyes On You” and goes laconic with Ms. Ryan on “A Cottage For Sale”. With Sportello she forms a rich duet on “A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square” while she bounces with Adkins on the fun “Let A Smile Be Your Umbrella”. A definite Betty in the Archie Comics book of singers.
