Bassist Chris Bates forms spontaneous duets with soprano and tenor saxist Nathan Hanson on this album of creative conversations. Hanson’s soprano is graceful around Bates’ Mingusy bass on ”Plasticity” while the two talk back and forth on “Valuate, Reckon”. Bates bows to Hanson’s swirling tenor on “Pit Oneself Against” while the two hover and brood on ”Not The Whole Story”. High pitched sounds are shared on “ Hymn of Blessing And Loss” with more reflective movements on “One Turn of The Dial”. Don’t look for transcriptions for this one, the ideas flow like wine!.
