Taking some time away from his usual trio format, pianist Jean-Michel Pilc goes solo on this album of originals, displaying both a fertile composing mind and digital prowess.
There’s a dash of Eric Satie in the graceful “Discovery” while playing with dots and dashes as he unwinds on “Way To Go”. He does a dainty left and right hand conversation on “Waltz for Xose” while a dark left hand plays foil to a dramatic right hand on “Just Get Up”. The ten digits are playful partners on “First Dance” while the phalanges rumble on “I’ll Be Back”. The mood of inquisitiveness is prevalent on not only each tune, but each bar. A fun time in the parlor.
