With a touch and sense of swing reminiscent of mainstreamers like Tommy Flanagan, pianist Christopher Lucas Wilson leads a trio with Noah Jackson/b and Jesse Kramer/dr through a rich mix of originals and covers. Of the latter, Wilson changes moods from reflective to bop on an interpretation of Chopin’s “Nocturne in Eb Major” with a fun read of “We See” including Kramer dancing along the Thelonious Monk piece. Wilson is sleek with the fingers on “Solemn Moments” and his touch is supple on the lullaby’d “La Media Vuelta” while Jackson and Kramer lurk around the theme on the noirish “Misnomer”. A touch of vintage with today’s tones.
