Pianist Simona Premazzi shows a wide kaleidoscope of ideas on this mosaic of solo performances, interpreting composers ranging from the baroque of Bach to the bop of Monk and post bop of Andrew Hill, throwing in some originals and standards along the way. She has a Chopinesque touch on the swinging read of “In The Still Of The Night” and an elegance when reading Johanne Sebastian (“G Minor Thing”), Thelonious (“Monk’s Mood”) or Frank Loesser (“On A Slow Boat To China”). There’s a dash of Keith Jarrett’s elegance and introspection on “I’ll Take A Spaceship…”, with her own “Back Seat” quite attractively contemplative. Any trips to the West Coast coming? This lady sounds important.
