Drummer Mario Gaiotto brings together Daniel Grajew/p and Sidiel Vieria/b for a collection of interplaying originals. He gives everyone a chance in the sun, with Vieria introducing the modern sounding “Going To Maghreb” and relentless “Jerusalem” as well as starting the gallop of “Enquanto Voce Dormia” before Grajew’s glassy ivories take over. Grajew and Gaiotto do some impressive interplay and harmony on the fervent “Tambu e Viola” while producing a spry opening for the intricate “Tempura de Marxixe”. The leader is kinetic on “Seventy Times Seven” and creates a festive dance on the ricocheting “Maraacapiba”. Rich conversations abound.
Leader Axel Kuhn brings his bass, guitar, synthesizer, vocoder and keys into a trio format with pianist Ull Mock and drummer Eckhard Stromer. There’s a danceable mix of bass and keyboards on the linear “Human Machine” while Kuhn gets meditative on “Unknown Destination”. Mock is Jarret-lyrical on the gentle “Passing Heroe”” with the team lamenting around Stromer’s brushes on “Waltz For Chick”. Some interesting tones are created on the sonata’d “Lonely Poet” and the team gets into a deep staccato’d pattern on “Like A Storm”. Gray shadows of sound.
