Sam Blakeslee plays trumpet on this album with Brandon Coleman/g, Chris Coles/as, Matt Wiles/b-moog, Jamey Haddad/perc, Brian Krock/wwinds and Dan Pugach/dr, but you almost wouldn’t know it as the brass instrument is almost completely obscured by electronics, tapes and effects throughout. His horn is part of the ambient effects of “What Was” and filled with echoes and reverb on “Little Song Diary-Part I” and “Part II”. Krock’s bass clarinet cries through the fog of “Preinterlude” and Pugach hits hard on the heavy metalled “Crushed Life”. There are many dreamy synthscapes like “Wistful Thiking” and the Middle Eastern pulsed “Busy Body”, and quirky moments on the bopping “Hollandaise Sauce”. The shadow of Brian Eno is cast long here.
